Author and naturalist Charles Maynard will lead a hike, open to the public, through trails on the Southcliff development beginning at 4 pm, Saturday, after the inaugural Southcliff Black and Blue run on the property earlier in the day.

Hikers will walk to near the top of the property, where elevation is about 3,950 feet, and then work their way downhill to about 2,400 feet.

Maynard is a storyteller and author who has written or co-written more than 27 books, including 20 for children. He will be giving away signed copies of his non-fiction children’s book about the Appalachian Mountains.

Hiker will gather at the Southcliff sales lodge, off US-74-A near its intersection with Reeds Creek Road in Fairview. Afterward, Maynard will tell stories around a fire at 7 pm.
