Recess Charlotte opens today with fishbowl margaritas, cocktail buckets and an unexpectedly refined menu

Recess Charlotte, an “adult playground” and gastrolounge, opens today at 4 p.m.

The playful hangout, located at 832 Seigle Avenue, will open with hands-on indoor activities like giant Jenga and shuffleboard and later phase in a few outdoor childhood favorites like four square and tetherball.

The nearly 3,000-square-foot space can seat 96 inside at tables, couches and two bars and another 24 out front on the dog-friendly patio.

Don’t let the playful atmosphere and throwback childhood games fool you. The menu at Recess is all grown up.
Chef Chianti Peek has created an unexpectedly refined menu for the light-hearted space.

You’ll find small-plate shareable items like sliders topped with kimchi, salmon tacos, warm kale quinoa salad with roasted sweet potatoes and wings tossed in housemade honey soy chili sauce.

Behind the bar, expect giant fishbowl margaritas and cocktail buckets to be the stars of the show.
Buckets are $12 each and drink like a soda. Dangerous. The $16 margarita fishbowls come in four flavors — lemon blueberry, peach, strawberry and coconut.

They’ve also got $10 specialty cocktails, a $5 local draft list (along with a variety of cans, including $2 Natty Lights) and wine.

Recess will host an official grand opening party on Friday, August 25.
Starting today, they’re open Tuesday and Wednesday 4 p.m. – midnight, Thursday and Friday 3 p.m. – 2 a.m., Saturday 11 a.m. – 2 a.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. – midnight.
