The Dunavant, a new $25 steak & bottomless fries concept, coming to South End

A new restaurant and bar named The Dunavant is coming to 2322 Dunavant Street.

It’s located near King of Pops and the intersection of Hawkins and Dunavant. Here is the quick scoop for the 3600 square feet of space.

Chef Travis Hearne, born in Charlotte and the former executive chef at Vivace, is teaming with a French trained pastry chef for a unique menu not seen elsewhere in Charlotte.
The menu will feature a simple steak and fries style, prix fixe menu similar to something like Medium Rare in Washington DC.

On the menu, look for:

  • In-house salads, 2 servings of steak (6oz), bottomless truffle fries
  • $25 fixed price, all the time
  • Rotating single special daily
  • Veggie options (veggie of the day, prepared as desired) for those vegetarians out there
  • All the food will be sourced from local farms, and aside from the bread, the menu is gluten free

The Dunavant is dining driven with a restaurant first, bar second focus. Charlotte seems to only have high-end steak or chain restaurant steak options. This aims to hit a middle ground.

The space features a panoramic, U-shaped bar with a smart, casual style. There will also be a great sunken patio fronted by a gigantic garage door for outdoor dining.

With the location being sneaky close to Sycamore Brewing, The Dunavant will help extend the walkability of the area and adds another desirable dining destination.

It is also right next door to RAM’s giant 265-unit apartment complex that will contain 20,000 square feet of retail. That will drastically improve the area and create a full district.

It is to note that this restaurant sits in a building with an additional 14,000 square feet available for office or retail that Argos Real Estate is marketing. This is a great addition to a burgeoning street that is primed for additional office and restaurant uses. D3 is the architect and Fairwood Construction is doing the build out. Look for an early 2019 opening.
