Fleet Feet is expanding its reach in the Charlotte market.
The Carrboro-based franchisor of specialty running stores recently opened a location at Christenbury Village in Concord. It is at 2420 Herron’s Nest Place Northwest, suite 103.
Lowes Foods anchors that nearly 116,000-square-foot, mixed use retail center. Christenbury Investors — an entity affiliated with Charlotte-based MPV Properties and Mission Properties — is developing the 17-acre project.
Mark and Kristin Harris are behind the Feet Fleet store, which will celebrate its grand opening on March 15. It marks their second store following one that opened in Huntersville in January 2010.
“We’ve seen tremendous growth and support at our Huntersville location, and we’re eager to extend the same personalized service and community engagement to this new market,” Kristin Harris says.
The new location will cater to Concord, Kannapolis and Harrisburg. It is close to Concord Mills as well as UNC Charlotte.
Fleet Feet carries brands such as ASICS, Brooks, Hoka, New Balance, On and Saucony.
The store offers a personalized approach to finding the right-fitting footwear, apparel and accessories. Its exclusive outfitting experience, called fit id, utilizes pressure plates and 3D foot-scanning technology. That makes it possible to assess the size and shape of customers’ feet and the gait cycle.
Fleet Feet, founded in 1976, is the largest franchisor of locally owned and operated specialty stores for runners. It has more than 275 locations in 40 states.
Costs to open a location include a $45,000 franchise fee. The total investment for a store will fall between $228,500 and $545,000, according to Fleet Feet’s website. Most stores are between 1,500 and 2,000 square feet.
The brand has six locations in the Charlotte market. The company acquired the flagship location of The Ultra Running Co. in Myers Park in 2023.
